dc.description.abstract A thin-layer chromatography method is reported for the simultaneous separation of adrenaline (epinephrine), noradrenaline (norepinephrine), acetylcholine, and serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine) from each other. The method involves the use of pre-coated silica gel G and cellulose plates. Additionally, three thing-layer chromatographic procedures are reported for the separation of adrenaline, noradrenaline, acetylcholine and serotonin. The procedures involve the use of both silica gel G and cellulose plates employing solvent system (41) of Table I for separation of adrenaline and noradrenaline on cellulose and silica gel G plate, solvent system (180) of Table II for separation of serotonin from adrenaline and noradrenaline on silica gel G plate and solvent system (32) of Table III for separation of acetylcholine, adrenaline, noradrenaline and serotonin from each other on cellulose plates. A sequential procedure is recommended for the detection and identification of the above compounds. The procedures are followed by spraying adrenaline, noradrenaline and serotonin with the usual reagents for phenols or with ethanolic Rhodamine B and acetylcholine by spraying with dipicrylamine reagent. en_US
