Abstract:
This study examines the reactions and contributions of the Ottoman Armenians to the liberal policies of their government in the nineteenth century. After a brief chapter that explains the circumstances of the conquests that made Armenians Ottoman subjects, and discusses their condition up to the nineteenth century, it shows that the Armenians were not only staunchly loyal but made substantial political and cultural contributions throughout the reform period.
