dc.description.abstract Toxins are abundant in our world. They are in the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food that we eat. Although the number of toxins that alter our physiology are immeasurable, there are a few that have been isolated that alter genes, and contribute to disease. According to Joseph Mercola, OD, the top ten environmental toxins today are polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), Pesticides, Mycotoxins, Phthalates, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), Dioxins, Asbestos, Heavy metals, Chloroform, and Chlorine. The purpose of this literature review is to examine these toxins and the subsequent effect they have on the human body/the role they play in disease. en_US
