Decision Making in the Line Haul Trucking Industry

Abstract

The motivations which prompted the writer to undertake this task were twofold: The desire to obtain information which might be potentially useful to the trucking industry and to the writer in the course of business and, in addition, the fulfillment of an academic requirement. The primary purpose of this thesis was to survey the thought processes of upper management in a representative American industry when faced with procurement decisions. The results of the investigation are considered quite useful for individuals both inside the trucking industry and those who intend to supply major items to the industry. The peripheral knowledge obtained from the research conducted during this program has given the writer a far better understanding of the problems associated with the incorporation of new equipment in industry. The opportunity to absorb comments from many experienced managers in the trucking industry was well worth the effort to conduct the survey of these people.
