Abstract
The health care industry, and especially its hospital portion, has been receivinq increasing external pressure to provide the best possible patient care at the least cost. This means that hospital management must have timely access to accurate patient information to ensure appropriate hospital resource assignment and efficient resource utilization. Two management tools to assist hospital administration meet these requirements are an automated patient data base and cost justification studies. The author used a case study approach to discuss both management tools.
