Abstract
In regenerative medicine, the repair, restoration and regeneration of defects in both, soft and hard tissues, remains a challenge. Hence, better bioengineering strategies and biomaterials are still needed. Autologous platelet concentrates are potential tools from which regenerative medicine can benefit. The Leukocyte-Platelet Rich Fibrin (L-PRF) is a subfamily of the PRF concentrates that has been in the spotlight mainly due to its simplicity and cost-efficacy. The presence of leukocytes, proteins, cytokines, growth factors, and stem cells within its enriched solid 3-D fibrin matrix give this biomaterial desirable and attractive angiogenic, osteogenic, hemostatic, antiinflammatory, antimicrobial, analgesic, and wound healing properties. On the other hand, polymeric substances, such as PCL have a demonstrated potential to operate as a scaffold suitable for bone volume augmentation. The ability to tailor the material's properties at the molecular level is one the benefits that allow such synthetic materials to be utilized/employed as proper or ideal scaffolds for both, cells and tissues.
