Abstract

Ashwagandha, also known as Withania somnifera (Indian Ginseng or Winter Cherry), has been a cornerstone of Ayurvedic medicine for millennia. This powerful adaptogen is renowned for its ability to help the body manage stress, boost energy, and promote overall wellbeing. Although Ashwagandha is not currently an endangered species according to CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora), the ever growing worldwide demand for this versatile herb is exponentially outgrowing the supply. The herb naturally grows in dry regions of India, parts of the Middle East, and North Africa. Due to its resilience from changes in climate this plant spread beyond its native regions, now finding homes in gardens and farms worldwide. In order to prevent Ashwagandha from becoming endangered the need to explore wild craft or even hydroponic growing efforts quickly increases. We must create our own sustainable supply domestically as the popularity of this herb grows in the health and wellness industry.
