Abstract
Since prehistoric times, humans have had to maintain the ability to be active and move to escape predators, search for food and secure shelter. Agricultural production and industrial revolutions throughout history further required humans to be active and relatively fit. The 20th century marked an era of industrial production from advanced machines and technology that all but eliminated human labor. This change resulted in decreased physical activity causing devastating outcomes to individual and public health outcomes. Industrialization has further impacted human health by the over production of calorically dense, nutrient poor food products that have negative health outcomes such as metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease, obesity, poor brain health and unhealthy aging.
