The question of whether or not a separate and distinct Negro market potential exists, and whether specialized attention is necessary to effectively develop this market segement is faced by today's marketer of consumer goods and services. This paper will analyze the Negroes' socioi-economic characteristics, purchase patterns, buying motivations, media preferences, and a case history of a company who has successfully developed the Negro market potential to help marketers answer this question.
