Abstract

This thesis covers analytical techniques applicable to stability determination in a broad class of fixed-parameter nonlinear closed loop systems. Included are discussions on the describing function method and a survey of very recent work on its application to systems with multiple nonlinear elements. Liapunov's first method and direct method are covered. The frequency domain method of V.M. Popov developed in the last decade, is reviewed. A new method of applying Popov's criterion is presented. Examples of the various techniques are given throughout with digital computer verification of the results obtained.
