Abstract

According to CDC, about 11 % of the US population, around 37.3 million people have diabetes. In 2017, the direct medical cost was $237 billion out of the total $327 billion cost associated with diagnosed diabetes (CDC, n.d.). For people diagnosed with diabetes, the average medical cost is about 2.3 times higher than that of iindividuals without diabetes(Statistics About Diabetes I ADA, n.d.). The higher cost is often due to diabetes-related health complications. Diabetes-related health conditions can be managed through behavioral and lifestyle changes to prevent or reduce health complications.
