Abstract
Bank Debit Data as an Indicator of Local Business Activity was written with the objective of determining the suitability of debits as a barometer of business activity in the Bridgeport and New Haven metropolitan areas. The study represented a statistical analysis and the data used included five time series, bank debits, nonagricultural employment, kilowat hour sales, average hourly earnings, and average weekly hours. The results supported the hypothesis that bank debits can be used as a reasonably reliable measure of business activity in the Bridgeport and New Haven metropolitan areas.
