Abstract

This narrative inquiry explores urban school principals' experience on in-service professional learning and how they feel it has contributed to the creation and sustaining of culturally relevant learning environments in their schools. Each participant in this study participated in an equity training that supports school principals in using an equity lens to implement a vision, build strong school culture, set clear and high expectations and develop principals who ensure rigorous and culturally responsive instruction. There is a scarce amount of research that exists on the role principals must take to develop their teacher's cultural proficiency (Gooden & O'Doherty, 2014). Ultimately, this study's outcomes serve to enhance the professional learning experiences of aspiring and current school principals in regards to culturally relevant leadership.
