Abstract

The following literature review was conducted to evaluate and justify the use of folk, or bush medicine, in this case, from Jamaica. Real life experience with the bush doctors was utilized to identify four herbs, Piscidia erythrina, Annona muricata, Cannabis sativa and Turnera diffusa, vital to peace of mind, decreasing anxiety and improving quality of life. The herbs of interest were all analyzed from the perspective of both the Jamaican bush doctor and literature review of the past and current research conducted on these plants and published in peer-reviewed journals.
