Abstract

The united States has been involved with vietnam in varying capacities and degrees since 1945. Although much has been written concerning the American involvement and to some extent, concerning Vietnamese history and culture, a unit for high school study has not, to my knowledge, been developed. Teachers of U.S. History, World History, Contemporary Issues, International Relations, Asian Studies and other social studies courses have found it necessary to put together or more often, "patch" together some sort of coverage -- "catch as catch can" -- or to virtually ignore the subject. I have been in this position as a teacher of Contemporary Social Issues, Asian Studies, and U.S. History at Darien High School. Therefore, I have developed curriculum for a five-nine week unit on Vietnam, drawing from a variety of sources.
