Eight issues of the UB bulletin were published in this very busy and newsworthy month of May. Early in the month the passing of UB Trustee Isaac E. Schine, one of the critical founders of the University and serving the institution for 44 years, was announced as well as Trustee Elmo Roper. One of the more significant visitors to the campus, Muhammed Ali, was scheduled to give an address titled "the Purpose of Life" was to be held in the Harvey Hubbell Gym on May 13. In academic news, Dr. James Light was named Scholar of the Year by the Board of Associates and Dr. Lydia Duggins was named Teacher of the Year also by the Board of Associates. She has been a member of the faculty since 1958. finally, late in the month it was announced that Chancellor James H. Halsey will retire after serving for thirty-three years in several capacities for the University.
