Abstract

This study was conducted to assess residential internet plans in the US (Connecticut State) using a SMART decision analysis approach. A qualitative method of data collection was used in this study. Two sets of data were collected. The first set was derived from ISPs availability in the selected area. For this part, we used a zip code in Stamford, CT, to identify available ISPs. Among available ISPs in the chosen area, five options were selected, which are EarthLink, Verizon, ViaSat, and HughesNet. The second set was based on cost, connection type, speed, extra features, and customer rating. Using a SMART decision analysis, we found that the best ISPs options based on availability were Verizon, HughesNet, and ViaSat. Additionally, the top ISPs options based on connection type were EarthLink and Verizon based on the connection type. Further, the excellent ISPs options based on speed were Verizon and Frontier. Moreover, the perfect ISPs choices based on customer rating were EarthLink and Verizon. Moreover, the greatest ISPs option based on extra features was Verizon. As a result, this study suggested that the ideal ISPs option in the used zip code in Stamford, Connecticut was Verizon.
