Abstract

The goal of this clinical review is to analyze the most recent studies and address the extent of the cardiovascular (CV) risk associated with taking estrogen hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in transgender females. 20 papers were analyzed and included in this final review. It was hypothesized that transgender women on estrogen HRT are at an increased risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) compared to transwomen who do not take HRT. For the transgender population undergoing gender-affirming hormone therapy, CVD is the main cause of death. Previous studies looking at CV risk and transgender persons taking HRT have conflicting results.
