Peek into the PA Profession: Impact of a High School Outreach Event

Abstract

The UB Physician Assistant Institute (UBPAI) has been involved in outreach to area high school and college students as part of the “Bridge to Bridgeport” initiative. In October 2023, UBPAI faculty planned an on-campus event, a High School PA Day (HS PA Day), for students from Norwalk, CT and Bronx, NY to learn more about the PA profession, educational pathway, and participate in hands-on learning in both the campus simulation and technical skills labs. Pre- and post event surveys were administered to assess the student experience. Overall, the event demonstrated success in enhanced awareness and understanding of the PA career path among participants. Additionally, many local high school students were introduced to the University offerings and campus amenities during the event.
