The 1959 publication Genesis reflects the contributions of students engaged with the Pre-College Science Center at the University of Bridgeport. The program is funded by grants that enable gifted high-school students to attend a summer-based program that will engage students in the fields of astronomy, geology, biology, or mathematics. "Participants will live on the campus for the seven week program. Activities will include classroom sessions in the morning, labroatory work in the afternoon, lectures and seminars inthe evenings, as well as various field trips. The publication includes art, sketches, photography, and reflections of activities durin g the 7-week event.
This is a synopsis of the event provided in this issue, "The Pre-College Science Center program was designed to provide time for extracurricular events, although the primary objective of the Institute was that of an academic nature. A widely varied activities program enabled every boy to take part in some form of worthwhile leisure. Sports competition and dances were emphasized to provide a healthy atmosphere. The many trips
gave us all an insight to practically every phase of both experimental and industrial science. Visiting speakers provided an exceptionally diversified background in many areas. The program wac terminated by an impressive commencement ceremony at which each participant was awarded a certificate of completion."
