Abstract

A Student Attitude Inventory, based on Plutchick's theory of emotion was administered to 214 students in an introductory psychology class at the University of Bridgeport. Factor analysis of the responses to the inventory failed to reproduce in a "pure" form the four bipolar emotions defined by Plutchick. However, the factors emerging did have a logical structure and could reflect a mixing of emotions. Results were seen to be useful in developing prescriptive teaching and encouraging to the point of recommending refinement and readministration of the inventory.
