Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore causative factors for paraeducator attrition and retention. The research question under study is: What are causative factors for unfavorable PEAR rates? Prior to conducting research, the following hypotheses were made: (1) Wage compensation is negatively correlated to paraeducator attrition. (2) Professional development (PD) is positively associated with paraeducator retention. The current research is justified because PEAR is directly linked to student achievement (Tillery et al., 2003). The United States (U.S.) ranked 34th out of 38 countries on the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) in 2022 (OECD, 2023). Concurrently, performance on the PISA dropped globally (OECD 2023).
