Abstract
Medical advances in research have led to a decline in avoidable blindness for our society. However, the likeliness of blindness increases with age. Today, people are living much longer, and our global population is increasing much faster. Thus, we have more people living with visual impairment than ever before. This influx in the visual impairment population proposes a problem for doctors and scientists to assist the visually impaired community. To help assist the community we introduce SmartCane, the cane that supports the visually impaired community with technology.
