Description

One of the larger published months for the UB Bulletion with nine issue from 3/1 to 3/29 and 2 issues of Professional Activities published. Many arts events took place during the month starting with artist Dan Flavin being name the 10th Albert Dorne Visiting professor. Nineteen yr. old violinist Jaakko Ilvis (Great-grandson of the world-renouned composer Jean Sibelius) performed on the 4th in the Tower room. Composer Norman Dello Joio was to be honored at the Third Annual Contemporary Music Festival. He is the acting dean at the School of Applied and fine arts at Boston University. The UB Purple Knights Basketball team was to play on March 6 in the New England NCAA tournament, they eventually came in 3rd for the event losing a triple-overtime game to Bently College. Dancer-Choreographer Murray Lewis and the Murray-Lewis Dance company was to perform at the Mertens theater 3/31 for the Carlson Festival of the Arts. Finally, it was announced that william Benton former UB Trustee and U.S. Senator died in mid-March.
