Abstract
Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for 7.6 million deaths (around 13% of all deaths) in 2008. Cancer accounts for more deaths than heart diseases for persons under 85 years old. One in four deaths is due to cancer in the USA. Cancer patients are increasingly seeking complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) regimens. Of the CAM modalities, homeopathy is one of the most popular choices for cancer patients in seven out of fourteen European countries, has traditionally been very popular in India and South America, and is increasingly sought after in the US. (2) The medical system of homeopathy was developed in the 18th century by German physician Samuel Hahnemann and is based on two principles, the Law of Similars, “similia similibus curentur: let likes be cured by likes””, and Individualization. In addition, homeopathic remedies are prepared in a very specific manner, with stepwise dilution and potentisation. (5) Using the writings of our predecessors, the current research, including clinical trials, cases, in vitro, and in vivo models, and a review of homeopathic cancer protocols developed by Grimmer, Barnett, the Banerjis, and Ramakrishnan, this paper will make the assertion that the use of homeopathic remedies is an effective stand-alone treatment for cancer.
