Abstract

This project presents the design and implementation of AutoGateX, the prototype of a low-cost Arduino-based automatic parking gate system. The system integrates an Arduino UNO R3 microcontroller, an HC-SR04 ultrasonic distance sensor, and a servo motor to detect approaching vehicles and autonomously open and close a gate without human intervention. Distance measurements from the ultrasonic sensor are continuously processed to determine vehicle presence within a predefined safety range, triggering servo-controlled gate actuation through programmed control logic. Software-based noise reduction and timing delays are implemented to minimize false triggering and ensure reliable operation. Experimental testing confirmed correct vehicle detection and gate motion. By combining sensing, actuation, and control logic in an Arduino-based smart system, this project provides hands-on experience with microcontroller programming, hardware software integration, and practical automation, demonstrating the potential of affordable embedded systems for smart infrastructure applications.
