The Application of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to Health Care Education

Abstract

UDL involves creatively embedding flexibility within a curriculum permitting multiple modes of delivery, allowing individuals to adapt their learning preferences to the content. For education related to health sciences, the evidence related to effective instructional methods has not kept up with the research and technological innovations within the field. UDL methods can be effectively used to reduce barriers to learning, improve communications, modify student support services, improve access to learning content, and develop adaptable assessment methods to evaluate outcomes.
